The Disabled American Veterans Combining Chapters Thrift Stores of Hampton Roads Virginia, Inc. presented 3 local service organizations with sizeable donations on Tuesday, October 5, 2010. The media event took place at DAV’s Board of Directors Meeting Room at 4209 W. Mercury Boulevard in Hampton.
“We are pleased to support the programs of our local Foodbanks and the Hampton VA Medical Center,” states Milton Jacobs, President, DAV Thrift Stores of Hampton Roads VA., Inc.
The Hampton VA Medical Center is the beneficiary of a $35,000 contribution which will help to provide veterans with program service support. Each food bank received a $25,000 contribution to aid programs such as the Backpack Program, emergency food boxes and the food bank Capital Campaigns.
“Without the support of the Disabled American Veterans and Auxilary we would be challenged to do the many things that are done on behalf of our Veterans,” said DeAnne M. Seekins, Director of the Hampton VA Medical Center. “The Hampton Roads Area is fortunate to have 13 DAV chapters who continue the motto of ‘Veterans Helping and Supporting Veterans,’ which is clearly demonstrated by this significant donation.”
“It is clear that DAV’s generous donation to the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula will greatly impact the surrounding community,” states Loretta Jones-Knauth, Chief Development Officer for the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula. “Together, we will be able to make a difference in, as well as bring hope into, the lives of many individuals, children and families in need.”
“The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia is excited to put this money to good use in our emergency food relief programs and services and building,” says Joanne E. Batson, Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia CEO. “This unprecedented gift is a testament to the DAV Thrift Stores’ community-mindedness and we are so proud to be able to serve our community with their support.”
