 Imagine feeling better than you’ve felt most of your life: energized, happy and passionate about even daily activities. Do you think that’s possible? In January 2011, thirty very skeptical people started a weight loss program with Shaklee right here in Hampton Roads and lost 600 pounds and 300 inches in 12 weeks!
What an inspiration it was to work with this group! And one family gave permission to share their story in hopes of inspiring others who may find themselves in the health situation they were in when they started.
Have you ever felt so tired after work that you couldn’t get off the couch to answer the phone? And you didn’t care? You’re 50, overweight for your height and bone structure and the assorted demons of high blood pressure, blood sugar issues, etc. are nipping at your heels. Your doctor has prescribed five drugs to deal with these issues and strongly suggested you lose 7 pounds. And things are going downhill from here.
Your wife is dealing with similar issues and your two college-aged children are headed in your health direction with 20-30 pounds each to lose.
 By 50, most Americans have been on just a few diets to say the least with the usual results – little weight loss and a lot of frustration. Sometimes goal weight is achieved but seldom maintained because the metabolic rate has slowed down- a disconcerting side effect of many diets.
So what would make the Vanorsdale family of four: father, Steve; mom, Stephanie; son, Steven; and daughter, Amanda pull together as a team and join the Shaklee Cinch® Weight Loss Competition? Their Shaklee sponsor, Maggie Biondo had known them for years through church. They used Shaklee’s environmentally safe cleaning products but did not want to discuss nutrition with Maggie. Until they’d had enough. Steve’s doctor urged him to lose just 7 pounds and Stephanie’s health problems were exacerbated by her weight. The kids, Steven and Amanda were wise to realize that the extra 20-30 pounds of pudge they were packing were leading them in a direction they no longer wanted to go. They had all had enough and were sick and tired of being tired.
The family teamed up reluctantly and skeptically and joined the competition that started in January and met once a week for 12 weeks. Their goals were modest: they were each hoping to shed a few pounds but they were determined to give the competition 100% participation. They had Maggie’s support, plus instruction in: nutrition-especially the “Shaklee Difference”; exercise; and the psychology behind many of our weight loss challenges. They learned how Shaklee products help our bodies feel better and function more optimally.
There were guest speakers from spas, make-over experts, personal trainers, massage therapists, all of whom helped educate the contestants about other aspects of well-being. Weekly prizes and grand prizes were awarded as well.
 In 12 weeks, Steve did not lose 7 pounds, he lost 49, dropped four belt loops and could not wear any of his clothes! Stephanie lost 42 pounds and most of her wardrobe as well and they went from extreme couch potatoes to working out in their new garage gym vigorously daily-and were amazed at their energy. Eighteen year old Steven did not expect to lose much and he lost 32 ½ pounds and 21 year old Amanda lost 24! She also discovered that she was not hungry like she was on other programs.
Together they lost 147 ½ pounds in 12 weeks, felt fantastic and found that people were coming to them wanting what they had. They have themselves to thank for jumping in feet first and giving the program a good try; Shaklee for being the vehicle to much improved health; Maggie Biondo for caring and sharing with them; and the whole Cinch® Weight Loss Team of Shaklee leaders and guest speakers.
Imagine the ripple effect on their present health and life and that of future generations as well as the lives of others they come in contact with. Twelve weeks have changed their lives forever and as Steve says now, “ I want others to have what I have!”
